Fall saftey is a widely (even externally of fighting arts) under emphasised and important set of [karate] techniques. Fall breaking greatest virtue is developing a comfort when interacting with any surface. The "uke" part of ukemi means "receiving" and is a person who is on the receiving end of the destabilising technique. It is always used in a passive sense. Mi means "body or self"
This is one of my personal favourite KIHON WAZA (foundational techniques).
It lends itself easily to all levels of experience with progressive difficulty. Starting with simple 45Β° evasion with defence then counter to the more complex simultaneous evade, block and counter utilising the same hip rotation. In our organisation it is referred to as "basic sparring method" although the name was always a point of amusement to me (to execute perfect timing, structure, techniques and precision under pressure against an opponent with integrity is not very basic!!) Enjoy. ππ₯π P

A look at GOJU RYU Kakurin Kan Karate Do INTERNATIONAL kata SAIFA, as instructed by HANSHI James Sumarac and his mentor Tadahiko Ohtsuka sensei. There are many variations to the "classical" form, including the addition of an Okinawan kata called SEN JITTE. For more detail, see the following YouTube link on my teachers channel. https://youtu.be/YBXx3iKjv5o
Part 2 of SAIFA-GOJU KENSHA oyo/bunkai. This video outlines some of the primary considerations when practicing applications, including structural destabilization, precision of atemi, functionality, economic kinetic flow, ambidexterity, constant contact and control, and balance of hardness and softness. Please enjoy. If you enjoy this please like, subscribe and share ππ₯β
A sample of goju kensha saifa bunkai/oyo with my kohai, Johnny. These techniques were performed slowly and with control as a teaching aid. They have been pressure tested against various types of strikes and speeds. Please enjoy. https://www.facebook.com/kakurinkanka...
Still after all these years, TENSHO is one of my favourite KATA. It's seeming simplicity, functional efficiency and fundamental balance of hardness, softness and flow are the core values of GOJU RYU. Please enjoy. #gojuryu#peterzarb#sunshinecoast#karate#tesho#kakurinkan
Basic training pattern, TENSHIN HO, for our beginner karate students. It combines evasive movements, basic blocks and counter strikes. There are many variations and additions this pattern can adopt to enhance learning into advanced levels, and 2 person drills that help promote function to the form. Enjoy π₯ππ₯
Our first 10 week course has looked at bullying. We have covered: what it is (Bullying is an ongoing misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that causes physical and/or psychological harm.) how to respond to it (calm communication, physical withdrawal, escalation, mediation, physical personal protection) how to prevent it (education and communication) and raising awareness about the negative effects it has (physical and psychological conditions). We are supporting the "Bullying, No Way" government initiative and are supplying wristbands to all students and parents in preparation for March 16, "National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence". https://bullyingnoway.gov.au/#bullyingnoway#karate#antibullying#eumundidojo
