Local students get "PEAK" karate experience.

You get more than just your average martial arts class with Karate Community. A glance back at 2021 term 3 school holidays which kicked off with a HILL-arious activity. Nearly 30 locals gathered at Mt Tinbeerwah for the Eumundi karate school’s "Mountain Training" workshop.

Wearing classical karate uniforms, students hiked or jogged up to the lookout where sensei Peter Zarb and Stephanie Raven lead participants through a series of exercises fittingly called "cloud hands".

"Cloud hands are a great energy-cultivation exercise that help students develop soft and flowing movements along with coordinated breathing" Peter explains. "These soft drills and conscious breathwork help us to relax our bodies and be mindful of our movements. When softly connecting with a partner, our limbs attune to one other and allow us to to feel the direction and intention of the opponent. We call this listening or sticky hands“.

It was a beautiful September morning, with the sun and fine weather warmly welcoming the group.

"We love training outdoors - nature energises and invigorates us. With the global pandemic and mask wearing seared in our souls, being up on top of a mountain getting fresh air and sunshine was just what the doctor ordered".

After their "climb and punishment", everyone gathered back and mountain’s foot for totem tennis, card games, ball games, snags and refreshments. "Community engagement and building positive relationships is a part of our business promise. Steph and I love engaging with and really getting to know our students and their families".

Karate Community wasn't the only local stakeholder in this wonderful event. Cooroy’s Wright Cut Meats butcher, Peter, generously donated an assortment of beef, lamb and pork sausages for the BBQ. Pete the butcher shares a passion for supporting his local community.

Karate Community chose Mt Tinbeerwah for its activity because of its ease of ascent for all age groups and levels of fitness, its centralised location to students over the Noosa and Sunny Coast Hinterlands, its beautiful scenery and convenient amenities. "We keep everything as local as we can - this is our community and we're proud to be a part of it".

Karate Community looks forward to hosting many more events like these in the future, because good karate students N-Everest!
