Kumite intensives term 4 2023

  • Eumundi School of Arts Hall 63 Memorial Drive Eumundi Australia (map)

What is Kumite?

Kumite translates to “entangling hands” and is a method of practicing karate techniques with a partner in a safe and supportive way.

Students are firstly introduced to pre-arranged combative methods to help build skills, knowledge and confidence. Next, various forms of controlled free sparring are practiced, thus opening the unpredictability of spontaneity which is a cornerstone of combative preparedness.

We will be offering 2 programs this term - Beginner and Advanced Kumite.

The Beginner Kumite Program is an introduction to sparring for white and blue belt Young Adult and Adult karate students. This program will cover basic sparring methods, tactics and combat in a slow, nurtured and strictly supervised environment.

Our Advanced Kumite Program will be an opportunity for green, brown and black belts to hone their combat craft in a program that explores more in depth strategies in a highly pressure tested environment. Wearing fist, leg, groin and chest guards, each session end in Juyi kumite, free sparring, which promotes random, fast paced, controlled combat.
