Karate Community

Karate Community teaches Goju Ryu Karate-Do; “the path of the hard and soft [empty] hands.”

The Go aspect of Goju Ryu can refer to a strike that emphasizes maximum power generation with minimal effort. There are many methods of power generation practiced in our training halls with the objective of increasing power with old age. This development is only possible through authentic training.

The Ju aspect refers to the softer, sometimes yielding methods of defence that enables adhesion, sensitivity and eventual control of an attacker.

Sensei Pete is a highly skilled martial artist that is great at getting the best out of those lucky enough to train with him. Fantastic with people of all ages, he has a hilarious, easy going attitude that spreads throughout his dojo, but don't be fooled, you will train very hard with him.

OUR BRANDING

Karate Community business identity showcases our Japanese Karate heritage in harmony with our Sunshine Coast home.

Kamon or Mon, are Japanese emblems used to decorate and identify an individual, a family, an institution or business entity.

Karate Community is a Sunshine Coast and Noosa Hinterland based club, and with the help of talented local artist and friend, Zoe Martin, we have been able to create an identity that celebrates our now, as well as paying homage to our past.

Our aim was to create something that not only reflected our Japanese heritage, but to also proudly represent our home and our values.

Water is an excellent metaphor for “Goju Ryu Karate-Do”, meaning “the path of the hard and soft hands”. Water is both soft and yielding, able to take on any shape or move around any structure. It can also be hard and powerful, capable of causing great destruction. It can flow slowly and gently or fast and forcefully. Water gives us life and helps things grow. Plus, we have some of the best beaches here on the Sunshine Coast!

Karate Community is an inclusive and progressive group, who not only value the origins and influences of Japanese karate and our contemporary practitioners of all kinds, but also the original custodians of the land which we train, the Gubbi Gubbi community.
